To optimize the health and well being of people who perform complex and demanding work and who live challenging, stressful lives.

Our Intention

Our interest is to help people who live in complex lives to reach a new reality either in the form of identifying and treating the causes of their distress or triggering the drivers underlying their potential. In both cases, the outcomes are the same - new behavioural and emotional patterns, habits and attitudes that support enhanced levels of performance.

Threshold sponsors 'performance makeovers' that taken to its fullest opportunity translates into "life makeovers". As a result these people become increasingly able to significantly influence the well being of their families, organizations and communities.


The Threshold Niche

In short the niche is in the packaging, assessment, programming and facility.

A. Packaging

Basing its marketing on the culture of —Life Makeovers, Threshold positions the experience in the language of —before and —after. Whether one is pursuing a minor shift in perspective, or a life-altering event, Threshold enables each member to take —a hard (and yet gentle) look in the mirror using state-of-the art clinical tools and media. The developmental work that follows is multi-faceted. Each program is designed to help individuals discover their own bio-psycho-social-spiritual formula for success.

B. Assessment

Threshold specializes in comprehensive, engaging and high impact assessments. They are as much a part of the makeover process as the developmental programming itself.

Overall Premise: The overall premise of the assessment is to identify the stress factors and coping capacity inherent in the ability for one to optimize his/her performance and potential. While a strong clinical element is evident throughout this process, the context is a blend of ancient and modern healing sciences and arts represented in a range of bio-psycho-social-spiritual instruments, tools and methodologies rooted in evidence-based clinical practice.

    Biological - Physical well being assessed by primary healthcare,
nutritional and fitness experts.
     
    Psychological - Mental and emotional health assessed through instruments such as the MDs-MH Instrument, Safety Sensitive Assessment, Emotional Quotient Questionnaire, as well as multi- intelligence (visual, verbal, natural, musical, kinaesthetic) experiences.
     
    Social - Feedback in the form of a personalized 360 Feedback tools, as
well as involvement in a range of social simulations.
     
    Spiritual - Opportunity and environment provided to experience a range
of spiritual practices.


The Takeaway: Threshold provides each individual with his/her —Threshold Journal. The Journal contains the test results, analyses and professional recommendations formulated from the assessment and simulation experiences. The specific nature of the Threshold programming that would best serve each individual‘s needs are outlined should he/she wish to go beyond the assessment stage. In order to escalate the individual‘s willingness and ability to mobilize his/her action plan, the —Threshold Takeaway includes a series of reflective mirrors involving a professionally cut and edited series of video journals tracking the client‘s progress through the —Threshold experience, culminating in the visual personal contract used by the participant for ongoing post-program reflection and assessment.


Post programming assessment continues in three, six and 12-month intervals.

The Assessment is a pre-requisite for participating in any of the programming.


C. Programming

Threshold Programming is streamlined to address the needs of specific groups - the largest differentiator being those who are engaging in stress reduction and self-management and those who are expecting to uncover and stimulate the triggers underscoring their potential. (These are two distinct programming streams.)

Each program is comprised of individuals seeking the same outcomes, as determined by their Assessments. As such, all programs are segmented along the lines of need; while choices are offered in terms of mixed or homogeneous groups re gender, age, profession, and organizational level.

The Programs offered from 3 to 15 days depending on the developmental requirement. (3,5,10, & 15-day programs)

The Content: In a word the content is "unique". The multi-intelligence programming embraces a full house of cognitive, emotional, social, physical and spiritual development practices designed to deal with their associated needs related to stress, anxiety, depression, as well as the substantive building blocks associated with wellness, performance and optimizing potential. The experience offers best practices in stress management, coping strategies, wellness activation and potential realization using state-of-the-art developmental media and technologies - didactic, group, creative arts, music therapy, horticultural development methodologies - to name a few.

The content is customized. While every program is based on a scientific
"core" design, each one is uniquely tailored to address the needs and issues identified during the assessment phase.



Sustainability: As we all know, the "wow" factor fades within 21 days after a significant emotional event if left unsupported. Sustainability involving the increasing pursuit of one's development campaign is critical to the success of Threshold's mandate. This is addressed though the retention strategies built into the program which include the Threshold Journal, and the Threshold Coaching Network. This network provides a range of skilled professional coaches trained and certified to deliver ongoing support. It must be understood that Threshold's programming is designed and delivered in the context of the "real life" worlds in which its participants find themselves. In this manner, executives, for example, would have uncovered the issues of their makeovers in the context of the business realities in which they find themselves. While programming is facilitated in a retreat setting and multi-faceted healing and transformation modalities are undertaken - the context is in their application to balance sheets. Shareholder demands, ethics issues and the never-ending pursuit of competitive advantage.

The coaching network for the other market segments are equally housed in their respective realities of their disciplines and life contexts.

D. The Facility

Threshold is housed at Owl's Head Island - a sanctuary location specifically designed for rejuvenation. Situated 60 minutes from the Halifax International Airport, this island retreat has a main house (accomodation for 7; meeting and eating for 15) and a one four-person cottage - each located on two different shores on the island. Sailing, kayaking, zodiac boating, swimming, snorkeling, bicycling and shore / beach walking make up the summer social activity; while snow shoeing & cross country skiing provide for winter outdoor activity. The open kitchen is designed for collaborative healthy meal preparation and nutritional cooking lessons.

The Business Model

Over the longer term, we will be exploring the development of a private sector consortium of corporations who share in their commitment for their staff‘s well being. This may be difficult to establish at this early stage of development. We are using a —soft launch which will not incur large amounts of capital other than the fee-for service that will be charged for each participant. Once the core business has been established, the export model of services would be offered locally, nationally and internationally as a profit-based enterprise.

While the Owls Head facility will operate as the site-specific location for the institute‘s programs, any or all of the offerings can be made available through other locations as a site-specific benefit for certain target markets or as a franchise business opportunity.
